1. Chocolate Fondant @ Bistro La Promenade
We have a new winner (as if any of them are bad) just BARELY edging out    Half King’s Brownie. THIS is how to do a “lava cake”. The stracciatella gelato is the perfect compliment in both flavor & temperature to the warm gooey chocolate and those little berries in the middle are amazing.

    Chocolate Pudding @ Bottino
Went back for the pudding.  The texture/consistency of this thing was unbelievable. More like Peanut Butter thickness than any Jell-O Pudding I’ve ever had. The whip cream allows you to alter the weight of your spoon with every bite and the broken chocolate lets your teeth join the party.

  3. Mousse de Chocolate con Frutillas @ Porteño
Chocolate mousse sandwiched between chocolate cake, encased in a shell of hard chocolate. It’s an upscale Ding Dong - and I mean that in the best way possible - fully refined but delightfully transported me back to my favorite childhood treat.  $8

  4. Triple Chocolate Cookies & Milk @ Cookshop
Everything a great cookie should be:  served warm and gooey, but even better the next morning :)

  5. Chocolate-Chocolate Chip Gelato @ Bottino
I’m going back for the chocolate pudding (highly recommended by the server, but so popular it was out) so received this complimentary treat (the service here is great).  It was below freezing outside, but this was so good I didn’t care.  The gelato is from Il Laboratorio del Gelato in the Lower East Side and served with almond biscotti.

  6. Mint Chocolate Lava Cake @ Trestle
Though not warm, it IS the richest chocolate dessert in the neighborhood with a super fudgy inside- and not too minty.  The crispy chocolate ”straw” was a great texture contrast.

  7. Hot Chocolate & Dark Chocolate Bars @ Jacques Torres in Chelsea Market
A few blocks too far to technically qualify for “near art”, I had to set the standard and get some pure chocolate.  Not surprisingly the best Hot Cocoa I’ve had (made with dark chocolate!).   Though “Bean to Bar” melted on the tongue better, was a touch sweeter, and had a cooler name, “Midnight Soul” was my favorite.

  8. Hot Chocolate & Brownie (to go) @ Bottino Take Out.
A hot chocolate made right - with frothed milk on an espresso machine.  If Americano’s hot cocoa (below) is too cute for you, this one’s for you = ungarnished and less sweet… the best “on the go” chocolate treat in the hood.

  9. Brownie @ Half King
As evidenced by my inability to photograph this before taking a bite - it’s my personal favorite…  everything a brownie should be - warm, crusty, sticky, and super rich (enjoyed at the bar with a glass of wine).  If it’s not on the menu - ask for it.
